OR Assistant | Main OR | Freeman Joplin | Full-Time | Day Shift
About The Position
The OR Assistant works in Freeman Health System’s main operating room, which has nine surgical suites and provides gynecology, ear, nose and throat, orthopedic, cosmetic, and neurosurgical services. The role supports a safe, clean environment for patients and surgical personnel through housekeeping and environmental sanitation. Under the guidance of a registered nurse, the assistant helps with safe patient handling, movement, and transfers, and supports operating-room staff by stocking supplies, transporting specimens and blood products, and moving equipment in and out of the operating-room suite. The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, on an 8-hour day shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Participation in the department’s on-call rotation is required, including the ability to report to the facility within 30 minutes of being called. Freeman provides an individualized orientation process for employees entering the perioperative setting.
Requirements
- AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers certification within 30 days.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe, clean environment for patients and personnel through housekeeping and environmental sanitation.
- Assist staff with safe patient handling, movement, and transfers under the guidance of a registered nurse.
- Stock supplies for the operating room.
- Transport specimens and blood products.
- Move equipment in and out of the operating-room suite.
- Participate in the department’s on-call rotation and report to the facility within 30 minutes of being called.
