About The Position

The OR Assistant works in Freeman Health System’s main operating room, which has nine surgical suites and provides gynecology, ear, nose and throat, orthopedic, cosmetic, and neurosurgery services. The role supports a fast-paced procedural team focused on patient safety and satisfaction. An individualized orientation is provided to prepare employees for perioperative work.

The OR Assistant helps maintain a safe, clean environment for patients and personnel through housekeeping and environmental sanitation. Under the guidance of a registered nurse, the assistant supports safe patient handling, movement, and transfers, and assists operating room staff with supply stocking, specimen and blood product transportation, and moving equipment into and out of operating room suites.

The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, on an evening schedule of 1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in eight-hour shifts. Participation in the department’s on-call rotation is required, including the ability to report to the facility within 30 minutes of being called.

Requirements

• Obtain AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers within 30 days.
• Ability to report to the facility within 30 minutes when called for on-call duty.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, clean environment for patients and personnel by performing housekeeping and environmental sanitation responsibilities.
• Assist staff with safe patient handling, movement, and transfers under the guidance of a registered nurse.
• Maintain operating room supply stocks.
• Transport specimens and blood products.
• Move equipment into and out of the operating room suite.
• Participate in the department’s on-call rotation and be able to report to the facility within 30 minutes when called.
