About The Position

The Optometric Technician supports optometrists in delivering a positive patient experience by assisting patients and performing initial tests to prepare them for an examination. The role uses optical equipment and includes patient support, equipment cleaning, and general office duties. Work is primarily in a standard office or clinical setting, though travel to other locations may be required. The position is based at The Eye Doctors in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Requirements

• At least one year in a role interacting with customers or patients, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Favorable background check as required by state.
• Proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to meet the role’s physical requirements, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling items up to 25 pounds; frequent walking; and strong fine motor skills and visual and auditory acuity.

Nice To Haves

• Previous medical office experience preferred.
• Previous ophthalmic experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver the Total Patient Experience and build relationships with patients while providing medical support.
• Follow company policies and procedures, including HIPAA requirements.
• Work with urgency and respect patients’ time and the doctor’s schedule.
• Operate a manual lensometer, auto-lensometer, autorefractor/keratometer, retinal camera, visual field equipment, and GDX or OCT equipment.
• Follow scripts for equipment testing, including photos, visual fields, and visual acuity testing.
• Clean examination equipment, including the tonometer tip.
• Interact courteously and professionally with employees at all levels.
• Perform general office duties and cleaning as assigned by the manager.
• Help create a positive, team-oriented, patient-focused work environment.
• Work hours that meet business needs, which may include weekends, schedule changes, or an extended schedule.
