About The Position

An Optometric Technician assists an optometrist in providing a Total Patient Experience by supporting patients and performing initial testing to prepare them for an examination. The role uses optical equipment and includes patient interaction, equipment cleaning, and general office duties. Work is primarily performed in a standard office or clinical setting, though travel to other locations may be required. Training is provided.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year in a position involving customer or patient interaction, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Favorable result on a background check as required by the state.
• Proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to meet the role’s physical requirements, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling items up to 25 pounds; fine motor use; and visual and auditory acuity.

Nice To Haves

• Previous medical office experience preferred.
• Previous ophthalmic experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Build relationships with patients and deliver medical support in accordance with the Total Patient Experience.
• Comply with company policies and procedures, including HIPAA.
• Work with urgency while respecting patients’ time and the doctor’s schedule.
• Operate manual lensometer, auto-lensometer, autorefractor/keratometer, retinal camera, visual field equipment, GDX, or OCT.
• Follow testing scripts for equipment and procedures, including photos, visual fields, and visual acuity.
• Clean examination equipment, including the tonometer tip.
• Interact courteously and professionally with employees at all levels.
• Perform general office duties and cleaning as assigned by the manager.
• Help create a positive, team-oriented, patient-focused work environment.
• Work hours that meet business needs, which may include weekends, schedule changes, or an extended schedule.
