About The Position

The Optometric Technician assists with patient care during eye exams by performing basic, advanced, and complex procedures accurately, quickly, and courteously. The role supports the optometrist in providing timely patient care and helping visits stay as close to schedule as possible. The position is based at the Pearland, Texas location and requires some travel to a nearby League City location.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
One year of optometry experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform preliminary patient evaluations before the optometrist examination, including dilation, topical medications, and autorefractions.
Interview patients before their visit with the optometrist to determine medical issues and reasons for the visit.
Support the optometrist in providing timely and effective patient care.
Record and maintain patient records and files in compliance with company, federal, and state policies, including HIPAA.
Respond to patient telephone inquiries and voicemails regarding medication, treatment, and problems, referring issues to the optometrist as necessary.
Assist patients with insertion and removal of contact lenses.
Order soft and hard contact lens trials for the optometrist.
Greet and direct patients as they enter the facility.
Prepare, clean, and maintain examination rooms and restock supplies as needed.
Schedule follow-up appointments and other appointments.
Verify insurance for patient examination visits and confirm appointment times with patients.
Explain insurance benefits to patients as needed.
Order contacts and check on contact orders.
Verify and file insurance for contact purchases.
Perform other duties as assigned.
