About The Position

America's Best, part of National Vision, is hiring an optometric technician to help keep patient flow efficient and assist the optometrist by conducting pre-screenings and tests before the doctor’s examination. The vision tests performed by the technician help the optometrist provide patient care. Optical experience and certification are not required; training is provided. The position is part-time, and the company notes that its stores are closed every Sunday.

The technician supports patient care by explaining preliminary examinations, completing paperwork, performing pre-examination tests, reviewing prescriptions and patient information, and promoting visual field testing and retinal screenings to eligible patients. The role also involves maintaining a professional doctor’s office and pretest room, keeping equipment properly maintained, and consulting with the optician, doctor, or retail management when needed.

Responsibilities

• Ensure high-quality patient care.
• Maintain a professional atmosphere and appearance in the doctor’s office and pretest room.
• Understand ocular terminology, diseases, and abbreviations.
• Explain preliminary examinations to patients.
• Complete necessary paperwork and perform testing on patients before the doctor’s examination.
• Promote visual field testing and retinal screenings to eligible patients.
• Perform exam pre-screening.
• Carefully review prescriptions and patient information and identify special needs.
• Consult with the optician, doctor, or retail management when necessary.
• Ensure the doctor’s and pretest equipment are properly maintained.
