About The Position

Savannas Preserve State Park is seeking an independent, motivated, and reliable individual to work part-time in the park’s Education Center. This role involves providing excellent visitor service, interpretation programming, administrative support, and custodial support. The position requires the ability to work weekends, occasional evenings for special programs, and holidays. This is a temporary OPS position that does not include insurance or leave benefits. All duties must be carried out with a safety-first mindset.

Requirements

  • Must be able to communicate with the public.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and perform physical labor (safely lift and carry 40 pounds).
  • Must be able to work outdoors in the heat.
  • Computer and office skills required (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Enthusiasm for working with children.
  • Canva or other graphic art platform.

  • Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and provide support for front desk services in the Education Center, including cash register operation, sales of annual park passes, answering visitor inquiries in person or by phone, and signing up interested parties for hikes or educational programs.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the Education Center interior and exterior building, including sweeping/vacuuming/mopping floors, cleaning toilets, taking out garbage, dusting displays, wiping down tables and high-touch areas, sweeping off pine needles, and sweeping off cobwebs.
  • Assist the Park Services Specialist with the park volunteer program by running reports on the volunteer portal, assisting with email communications to volunteers, conducting/arranging volunteer orientation, ensuring sufficient copies of handbooks and materials, and training volunteers as needed.
  • Assist the Park Services Specialist with advertising, communicating, and conducting park events by creating/publishing/posting the monthly calendar of events, coordinating volunteer assistance for set-up, event operation, and clean-up, creating event maps and itineraries, assisting with flyer creation and printing, coordinating with Park Staff and the Citizen Support Organization, and personally assisting with event set-up, take-down, and operation.
  • Assist the Park Services Specialist with educational programs by teaching/conducting activities for elementary-aged children (e.g., arts/crafts, lab stations, guided hikes) and preparing stations/classroom activities with provided materials.
