About The Position

In this role, you will provide support to the Communications Director and team for office operations and communications strategies, as well as work on special projects as needed. The Communications Office plays a vital role in conveying the department's story. This office is responsible for keeping the public, transportation stakeholders, the media, and staff informed about FDOT projects, initiatives, partnerships, and educational campaigns FDOT has communications staff in each district office throughout the state who work to communicate the department’s message collectively. Through cooperation, coordination and collaboration among the OneFDOT team, you will be contributing to a strong and empowering culture of TRREC: Trust, Relationships, Respect, Empowerment, and Communication. FDOT encourages our team members to grow through engagement, empowerment, training, and professional development. Through our agency’s learning management system, you have access to hundreds of computer-based training and instructor-led courses. The position is located in the Office of the Chief of Staff – Communications Office at 605 Suwannee Street, Tallahassee FL 32399.

Requirements

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and provide identification supporting citizenship or authority to work for the duration of program participation.
  • Participants are required to comply with all statutes and rules and the Department’s policies, procedures, regulations, and Code of Ethics.
  • Knowledge of administrative principles and practices
  • Knowledge of general office procedures and practices
  • Skill in listening to and understanding the needs of both internal and external customers in a courteous, respectful and effective manner
  • Skill in independent planning, coordinating, completing and tracking the status of assignments
  • Skill in Microsoft Office Suite such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and TEAMS
  • Skill in planning, organizing and coordinating work assignments.
  • Skill in following oral and written instructions
  • Skill in typing and using correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

  • Ability to track and monitor news stories, social media, and other external-facing platforms

Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning, coordinating, and organizing various work assignments and projects.
  • Assists in the preparation and distribution of external communications materials, such as social media posts, digital graphics, etc.
  • Assists in the preparation and implementation of internal communications materials, such as newsletters, internal department messages from leadership, and more.
  • Assists in the preparation and dissemination of general correspondence, such as emails, spreadsheets, letters, reports, presentations, and other documents.
  • Provides back-up support to other members of the Communications Office as needed.
  • Other related duties, as assigned.
