About The Position

This Administrative Assistant position is within the Wildlife Diversity Conservation Section (WDC) of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Division of Habitat and Species Conservation. This position will serve as a member of WDC’s Permitting and Incentives Group and focus on providing administrative support and customer service to promote gopher tortoise conservation throughout Florida. The main function of this role is to provide administrative support for gopher tortoise permitting, communications, and recordkeeping. The incumbent will be responsible for managing the gopher tortoise conservation program’s primary email account, file maintenance related to permits, processing financial transactions related to mitigation contributions, participating in meetings and other related administrative duties. The individual in this position will also serve as a contributing member of the Wildlife Diversity Conservation Section and may handle other responsibilities related to protected species as appropriate. Position may require occasional overnight travel.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the gopher tortoise conservation program’s primary email account
  • File maintenance related to permits
  • Processing financial transactions related to mitigation contributions
  • Participating in meetings
  • Providing customer service for the public on gopher tortoise-related issues, primarily over the phone and email, in a timely and professional manner
  • Coordinating purchasing activities, including procurement of supplies and educational materials in accordance with established procedures
  • Attending meetings and preparing accurate, detailed meeting minutes for distribution and recordkeeping
  • Receiving and processing public records requests related to gopher tortoises
  • Managing vehicle logs for gopher tortoise staff, including tracking, assignment, and maintaining accurate records.
