OPIR Analyst (Mid or Senior)

GRVTY•Charlottesville, VA
•$140,000 - $180,000

About The Position

GRVTY is seeking an Imagery Scientist to join its Charlottesville, Virginia team and work alongside community experts on applications of persistent infrared remote sensing. The analyst will exploit persistent infrared data to detect, characterize, and report events, distinguishing real signatures from background clutter and false alarms. The position develops and modernizes algorithms, tools, and methodologies for Persistent Infrared (PIR) data exploitation; conducts second- and third-phase exploitation of OPIR and other EO/IR sensor data; and fuses OPIR with other sensor data and multi-INT reporting into finished GEOINT and MASINT products. The analyst also assesses data quality, prepares reports and briefings for different audiences, supports collection planning and coordination, and assists with field tests and data collections.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship and an active TS/SCI clearance, or an active Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain SCI.
  • Mid-level: Bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of relevant experience; military or agency training may substitute for a degree.
  • Senior-level: Bachelor's degree and at least 12 years of relevant experience, including leading analysis or mentoring analysts.
  • Hands-on exploitation of OPIR or other infrared sensor data for intelligence production.
  • Working knowledge of IR phenomenology, including sensor resolution, sensitivity, and the strengths and limits of persistent overhead collection.
  • Proficiency with standard GEOINT and MASINT tools such as ArcGIS, ENVI, SOCET GXP, or RemoteView.
  • Strong written and briefing skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior support to NGIC, NASIC, NGA, MDA, or another DoD or IC production center.
  • Knowledge of TIV, PIV, or AFAST.
  • A degree in physics, engineering, remote sensing, or another STEM field.
  • Python or MATLAB skills for data handling, analysis, and visualization.
  • Familiarity with signature-modeling codes, radiometric calibration, or sensor performance analysis.
  • Experience with SAR, MSI/HSI, or LiDAR exploitation in addition to IR.
  • Exposure to AI/ML-enabled workflows, data labeling, or model evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with scientists and engineers to develop new and modernize existing algorithms, tools, and methodologies for exploitation of Persistent Infrared (PIR) data.
  • Conduct second- and third-phase exploitation of OPIR and other EO/IR sensor data to detect, track, and characterize events in support of ground forces intelligence requirements.
  • Review OPIR processed data, sensor metadata, and collection geometry to determine data quality.
  • Fuse OPIR with EO, SAR, MSI/HSI, and multi-INT reporting into finished GEOINT and MASINT products.
  • Author and review reports, graphics, and briefings for analysts, leadership, and customers, matching technical depth to the audience.
  • Help draft and prioritize collection requirements and coordinate with collection managers and mission partners on coverage for planned events and emerging targets.
  • Support field tests and data collections.
