About The Position

Carolina Eyecare Physicians is hiring an Ophthalmic Assistant to support ophthalmologists and optometrists in providing patient care. The position offers hands-on training for people interested in starting or advancing a career in ophthalmology, including training in diagnostic testing and examinations. Assistants work alongside physicians to collect information that supports diagnosis and medical and surgical treatment. The training may provide a path toward advanced, internationally recognized certification. The role is full-time, with a home office in Charleston, South Carolina, and requires travel to other locations. The position is suited to a service-minded, team-oriented person who is eager to learn and build a medical career.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Experience in a professional environment with a strong customer-service focus.
Ability to learn and apply complex concepts to daily work.
Ability to communicate with patients with warmth and empathy.
Team-oriented approach and willingness to help and support others.
Motivation and resilience to grow a medical career within a surgical practice.
Willingness to travel to other locations.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience in the medical field.
Experience in optometry or ophthalmology.

Responsibilities

Assist patients, provide excellent customer service, and share necessary information regarding treatment.
Conduct tonometry tests to measure intraocular pressure.
Measure visual acuity.
Take and document patients’ medical histories.
Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications.
Conduct visual field tests to measure field of vision.
Instruct patients in the care and use of contact lenses.
Prepare patients to see the doctor and perform other eye-related clinical functions.
