About The Position

Carolina Eyecare Physicians is a multidisciplinary eye-care practice serving patients in Charleston and the surrounding area. The Ophthalmic Assistant receives hands-on training to prepare for a career in ophthalmology, working alongside ophthalmologists and optometrists in a professional, team-oriented environment. The role involves performing diagnostic tests and examinations and providing doctors with information used in the medical and surgical treatment of patients. Prior medical-field experience is not required; training is provided. This is a full-time position with a home office in North Charleston, South Carolina. Travel to other locations is required.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Experience in a professional environment with a strong customer-service focus.
Ability to learn and apply complex concepts to daily work.
Ability to communicate with patients warmly and empathetically.
Team-oriented approach and interest in helping and supporting others.
Motivation and resilience, with interest in growing a medical career.
Ability to travel to other locations.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience in the medical field.
Experience in optometry or ophthalmology.

Responsibilities

Assist ophthalmologists and optometrists in providing patient care through clinical functions related to eye care.
Take and document patients’ medical histories and prepare patients to see the doctor.
Perform procedures and diagnostic tests, including tonometry to measure intraocular pressure, visual acuity measurement, and visual field testing.
Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications.
Instruct patients in the care and use of contact lenses.
Provide excellent customer service and necessary information regarding treatment.
Provide doctors with information to help diagnose and treat patients.
