About The Position

Carolina Eyecare Physicians is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to support ophthalmologists and optometrists in delivering patient care. The role includes hands-on training for candidates who may not have prior medical experience, preparing them to perform diagnostic testing and examinations and provide doctors with information used in diagnosing and treating patients. The position offers a path toward advanced, internationally recognized certification in ophthalmology. The Ophthalmic Assistant helps patients through clinical procedures, testing, and preparation for their doctor visits, while providing excellent customer service and communicating with warmth and empathy. This is a full-time position with a home office in North Charleston, South Carolina, and travel to other locations is required.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Experience in a professional environment with a strong customer service focus.
Ability to learn and apply complex concepts to daily work.
Ability to develop strong patient connections and communicate with warmth and empathy.
Team-oriented approach and interest in helping and supporting others.
Motivation and resilience to grow a medical career within a surgical practice.
Willingness to receive training; prior medical-field experience is not required.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience within the medical field.
Experience in optometry or ophthalmology.

Responsibilities

Assist patients and provide excellent customer service and necessary information regarding treatment.
Conduct tonometry tests to measure intraocular pressure.
Measure visual acuity.
Take and document patients’ medical histories.
Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications.
Conduct visual field tests to measure field of vision.
Instruct patients in the care and use of contact lenses.
Perform clinical functions, procedures, and tests and prepare patients to see the doctor.
