About The Position

Dominion Energy is seeking an Assistant Plant Operator (APO) to join their team at Williams Generating Station in Goose Creek. This entry-level position is focused on learning to operate a steam plant safely, reliably, and efficiently. The role involves performing routine inspections, assisting with equipment isolation and tagging, and participating in the plant's training program. Additionally, incumbents will be expected to qualify for roles in the fire brigade, hazmat team, and confined space rescue, maintain CPR certification, and potentially wear respirators. The position also requires qualifying to operate forklifts, man-lifts, and plant hoists.

Requirements

  • One year of work experience with motors, pumps, fans, compressors, and valves.
  • A valid Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, holidays, scheduled and unscheduled overtime, and during inclement weather.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and climb.
  • Mechanically and electrically inclined.
  • Ability to understand and troubleshoot complex operating systems and controls.
  • Ability to evaluate and determine when corrective work orders should be written.
  • Capable of making good decisions during emergency or abnormal conditions.
  • Completion of high school or equivalent (i.e., GED) is required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving history.
  • Recommended test results from the EEI Plant Operators Selection System (POSS) aptitude test.

  • Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Learn how to operate a steam plant in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner.
  • Performs routine plant inspection rounds, which include but are not limited to, equipment lubrication, cleaning of equipment, troubleshooting, and monitoring of unit conditions during plant startup, shutdown, and routine operations.
  • Assist Supervisor through the isolating and tagging of equipment for maintenance by using established Lockout and Tagout procedures and preparing the equipment for return to operation.
  • Complete at least one step per year of the plant’s assistant plant operator training program, including written tests and hands-on job performance measures.
  • Qualify as part of the plant’s fire brigade, hazmat team and confined space rescue teams and maintain CPR certification.
  • Occasionally wear a respirator and maintain annual respirator requalification.
  • Qualify to operate forklift, man-lift and plant hoists.
