This position is posted as a Plant Operator Trainee. However, individual qualifications may allow for a higher level operator position. The role involves performing building and grounds repair, maintenance work, and required drainage control work. It also includes operating, maintaining, and accounting for equipment and tools. Responsibilities extend to operating, testing, maintenance, and repair work on water and wastewater treatment pumping facilities, as well as equipment repair and maintenance on pumps and motors. Daily recording of information on hours, activities, and personnel attendance is also a key part of the job. Cleaning and maintaining tanks and filter beds, as well as maintaining, repairing, and lubricating equipment using hand and power tools, are essential tasks. The operator must perform all work with minimum service interruption and property disturbance. Adding chemicals like ammonia, chlorine, or lime to disinfect and deodorize water and other liquids, and inspecting equipment and tanks or monitoring operating conditions, meters, and gauges to determine load requirements and detect malfunctions are also included. Collecting and testing water and sewage samples using test equipment and analysis standards, and operating and adjusting controls on equipment to purify and clarify water are further responsibilities.
