Operations Manager - Dallas

About The Position

Relay is hiring an Operations Manager to help launch and scale its operations in the Americas. Reporting to the Site Manager/Head of Site, the role runs shifts at a Hybrid Sort Centre, leading 50–100+ operatives through high-volume, time-sensitive sortation. The Operations Manager works on the floor for every shift and is accountable for improving the site’s key metrics over time. This is a hands-on operational leadership role, not a desk-based or occasional-visit project position. The role combines end-to-end shift execution with frontline people leadership and continuous operational improvement. The Operations Manager establishes and embeds the controls, cadences, metrics, standard operating procedures, and change-management practices that support reliable operations. They plan labour and training for future shifts, identify risks ahead of time, and ensure clear end-of-shift handovers. The role also responds decisively to volume peaks, outages, and labour gaps, and implements changes in a live operation, including robotics, new sortation technology, and client onboarding. Relay describes its culture as focused on precision, ambitious execution, continuous improvement, ownership, investing in teammates, and creating shared success for merchants, couriers, and customers. The company is an equal-opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion.

Requirements

  • Experience scaling something from zero, such as a site, market, process, or program.
  • Experience managing a physical operation, such as quick commerce, grocery, e-commerce fulfillment, last mile, 3PL, food production, airport ground handling, or rail.
  • Strong people-management and communication skills, including communicating with frontline teams and senior leadership.
  • Experience creating and implementing an operational mechanism, such as a control, cadence, metric, or document standard, that changed how frontline teams worked.
  • Ability to own and explain operational metrics, including why a metric was created or redefined and what changed as a result.
  • Experience understanding frontline work through personally leading frontline teams, working day to day alongside a frontline population, or being accountable for outcomes delivered by frontline people who were not direct employees.
  • Ability to make decisions and maintain operational flow during time-critical disruptions and staffing or volume challenges.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in parcels, fulfillment, or sortation.
  • Background in program management in logistics or e-commerce, operations excellence and continuous improvement, strategy and operations transformation, launch and expansion, or regional operations.
  • Experience in corporate operations, central operations at large retailers or carriers, quick commerce, or marketplace operations.
  • Consulting experience that included implementing recommendations, rather than only advising.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver the shift plan end to end, including people deployment, throughput, quality standards, and health and safety compliance.
  • Lead, develop, and performance-manage a frontline team of 50–100+ operatives.
  • Build and ensure adoption of operational controls, cadences, metrics, standard operating procedures, and change-management mechanisms.
  • Plan for future shifts, including labour and training needs, and anticipate operational risks.
  • Own end-of-shift handovers, communicating what happened, what is at risk, and what the next shift needs to know.
  • Respond to volume peaks, outages, and labour gaps by triaging issues, containing their impact, and restoring operational flow.
  • Prepare clear briefs, escalations, handovers, and post-incident reviews.
  • Implement changes in a live operation, including robotics, new sortation technology, and onboarding new clients.
  • Continuously improve the site’s key metrics.
