About The Position

Join our Toyota Material Handling Team and be part of the Operations Leadership Rotational Program. The Toyota Emerging Talent Program (TETP) is a company-wide and department-led two-year rotational program for motivated Associates, designed to provide hands-on learning and diverse experiences within Toyota Material Handling North America. Participants will be placed in a variety of roles to expand their business acumen and broaden their skill set through new experiences. The Operations Leadership Development Track is designed to equip participants with a broad overview of the Manufacturing Operations Management at Toyota with experiences in Manufacturing Leadership, Toyota Production System Development, Production Control, Procurement, Production/Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality Engineering. The program includes rotations lasting from six months to one year, each helping speed the growth of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to become successful Associates and future leaders at Toyota. The Operations team is a customer-centric team focused on delivering quality products that help our customers carry the load. In this role, you will learn about the processes used to capture the needs of our customers. Additionally, you will discover how we develop a robust, cost-efficient, and dependable product and how we ensure the quality of product represents the Toyota name. You will also experience a macro view of the Toyota Development Way of Working and how this integrates into the Toyota Production System, a proven system of standardization and continuous improvement. The Operations Leadership Development rotations will include time spent learning specific manufacturing processes, learning the Toyota Production System with a focus on process improvement and problem-solving. The rotation will have a heavy focus on leadership, leading manufacturing teams and developing talent.

Requirements

  • Five years or less of post-collegiate work experience.
  • Driven to creatively solve customer challenges.

  • Hands-on problem-solving experience.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate complex ideas.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing a team of 20 to 30 Associates and Team Leaders.
  • Driving success in key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Practicing resourcefulness facing and overcoming the challenges that occur in complex daily production operations.
  • Working with your team to find and implement kaizen opportunities to eliminate problems and inefficiencies.
  • Cultivating and guiding your team, fostering a culture of respect and continuous learning.
  • Coaching Team Leaders and encouraging Associates to actively participate in kaizen including QCC.
  • Gaining hands-on experience practicing TPS, including 5-why problem-solving and 4M change management.
  • Strengthening communication and coordination skills by working with groups across the Manufacturing Department and support teams such as Production Control, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality Assurance.
  • Leading corrective and preventative actions for assigned commodities.
  • Guiding Manufacturing, suppliers, and supporting departments on process improvements and effective countermeasure techniques for nonconforming parts and warranty problems.
  • Participating in supplier audits, identifying potential risks in their processes and helping them to meet quality improvement targets.
  • Participation in and leadership of Jishuken Events, working closely with internal and external teams to tackle difficult production issues.
  • Supporting Quality Control Circle (QCC) activities, promoting Associate engagement and bottom-up problem-solving.
  • Helping to resolve manufacturing process quality and productivity issues.
  • Supporting workflow balancing when takt time changes occur to ensure smooth implementation.
  • Collecting, tracking, and analyzing KPIs to identify areas for improvement and measure their effectiveness.
  • Investigating and solving complex issues within the production process.
  • Completing improvement project work within a production area.
  • Shadowing a senior commodity manager and taking ownership of a set of suppliers, gaining an understanding of Toyota's sourcing practices.
  • Supporting Just-In-Time (JIT) production, where materials arrive precisely when needed.
  • Using techniques like Heijunka (production leveling) to balance workflow and reduce variability.
  • Utilizing Kanban systems to signal replenishment needs and maintain smooth material flow.
  • Emphasizing one-piece flow to minimize waste and improve efficiency by moving products through each step of the process one unit at a time.
