About The Position

Werner Enterprises’ 11-week summer internship provides an opportunity to apply classroom learning through real-world experience. The paid internship includes dedicated job training and learning opportunities in a collaborative, inclusive environment. The position is located at Werner’s corporate headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska, with some remote and off-site opportunities possibly available. Paid housing or housing assistance may be available.

The intern will work with the Optimization and Dedicated Backhaul Team to learn how Werner manages freight across one-way and dedicated divisions. The role involves supporting billing and administrative workflows, coordinating with internal teams, customers, and executing divisions, and learning how technology and AI support cross-modal efficiency across Werner’s operations.

Internship development activities include Lessons with Leaders sessions, a mentor program, intern activities, community support events, networking, and a summer project proposal and presentation.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field.
• Interest in gaining experience in logistics, supply chain management, business analytics, or customer service.
• Excitement about solving real-world problems and building relationships.
• Interest in working with technology and making a difference from day one.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Optimization and Dedicated Backhaul Team to learn and help manage the freight network across one-way and dedicated divisions.
• Assist with the billing process for freight managed by the Optimization team, working with internal billing teams and customers.
• Assist the Optimization Administrative team in ensuring booked freight is entered into the system on time.
• Communicate with executing divisions to help manage on-time pickup and delivery.
• Learn how the Optimization team uses technology and AI to drive cross-modal efficiency across Dedicated, One-Way, Logistics, Power Only, and Intermodal operations.
• Manage daily workflows using Mastery TMS and Hoptek tools, including Freight Finder, Commitment Manager, and Load and Mode Optimizer.
