About The Position

Werner Enterprises’ 11-week summer internship offers an opportunity to apply classroom learning in a real-world setting. The Operations Intern will work with the Optimization and Dedicated Backhaul Team to help manage freight networks across one-way and dedicated divisions, support billing and administrative processes, and learn how technology and AI are used to improve cross-modal efficiency. The role is based at Werner’s Corporate Headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska, with some remote and off-site opportunities potentially available.

The internship is paid and includes dedicated job training, learning opportunities, and a collaborative, inclusive work environment. Paid housing or housing assistance may be available. Development activities include Lessons with Leaders sessions, a mentor program, intern activities, community support events, networking, and a summer project proposal and presentation.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field.
• Interested in gaining experience in logistics, supply chain management, business analytics, or customer service.
• Excited by solving real-world problems and building relationships.
• Interested in working with technology and contributing from day one.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Optimization and Dedicated Backhaul Team to learn and help manage the freight network across one-way and dedicated divisions.
• Assist with the billing process for freight managed by the Optimization team, working with internal billing teams and customers.
• Assist the Optimization Administrative team in ensuring booked freight is entered into the system promptly.
• Communicate with executing divisions to help manage on-time pickup and delivery.
• Learn how the Optimization team uses technology and AI to drive cross-modal efficiency across Dedicated, One-Way, Logistics, Power Only, and Intermodal operations.
• Manage daily workflows using Mastery TMS and Hoptek tools, including Freight Finder, Commitment Manager, and Load and Mode Optimizer.
