About The Position

OUC - The Reliable One, is presently seeking a Operations Business Analyst to join the Lighting division. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing operating expenses, capital and revenue performance, monitoring budgets and forecasts, identifying cost and variance drivers, and developing insights that improve operational efficiency. You will partner closely with operational leaders to understand business performance, support cost and productivity analysis, and help translate financial data into actionable recommendations. You will also contribute to Power BI dashboards and KPI reporting, revenue forecasting, operational billing, and continuous process improvements. We are looking for someone with a strong finance, accounting or budgeting background, solid Excel skills, strong communication abilities, and the curiosity to dig into the numbers and understand the story behind them. The Operations Business Analyst provides advanced financial and operational support to departmental leaders, with a strong focus on managing Operating Expense (OPEX) budgets, analyzing cost drivers, forecasting financial performance, and improving operational efficiency. This role serves as a key liaison between Finance and Operations, translating financial and workload data into meaningful insights that guide effective, data driven decision making. The analyst is responsible for O&M, Capital, and Revenue budgeting, cost analysis, productivity metrics, and development of reporting tools including Power BI dashboards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or other field related to the area of assignment from an accredited university or college. In lieu of a degree, equivalent combination of education, certifications, and directly related experience may be substitutable on a 1:1 basis.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of accounting/finance/budget trending/analyzing/forecasting, to include one or more of the following responsibilities: Finance or auditing in a mid-sized company, Budget/accounting coordination, Financial data research, Developing operational reports, Analysis of business operations.
  • Experience conducting business process reviews and implementing improvements that drive cost savings and operational efficiency.
  • Thorough knowledge of interpretation and application of regulatory accounting practices.
  • Advanced level Excel skills (pivot tables, data modeling, and advanced formulas) along with advanced spreadsheet analyses and reports.
  • Software Applications applicable to area (i.e. CC&B, JD Edwards, Hubble, Power BI).
  • Proficiency with Power BI including dashboard development, KPI creation, and data visualization.
  • Strong financial analysis, planning, forecasting, and budgeting capabilities.
  • Business intelligence and data analysis skills to develop dashboards and insight driven reporting.
  • Effective communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Able to multi-task in an evolving work environment.
  • Capable of working independently as well as within a team environment.
  • Ability to analyze business operations and financial data, identify problems/opportunities, interpret policies, and propose solutions.
  • Able to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects to meet deadlines.
  • Able to lead projects/processes and provide related guidance and training to other employees.
  • Understand and apply technical and regulatory knowledge in the functional area of assignment.
  • Ability to develop a number of reports, documents, manuals, and guides for the functional area of assignment.
  • Understand and apply governmental accounting practices in the maintenance of financial records.
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; compute rates, ratios and percentages.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and standard office equipment (telephone, computer, copier, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree, preferred.
  • SQL or data-querying experience is a plus.
  • Utility experience, preferred.
  • Additional experience in the functional area of assignment may be preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, validate, and maintain operational financial data to monitor OPEX, Capital, and Revenue performance, budget adherence, and cost trends.
  • Perform monthly variance analysis process, identify key drivers and prepare clear financial insights for explanations and recommendations for Operational leadership.
  • Review financial transactions, identifying errors and ensuring accurate classification of expenses (prepaids, accruals, reclasses); prepare or recommend journal entries.
  • Contribute to the development of dashboards, KPIs, and performance reporting to link operating costs to work volumes and productivity metrics to support understanding of unit-cost performance.
  • Support the development and refinement of multi-year OPEX, Capital, & Revenue forecasts based on trends, expected changes in work volume or cost, and strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Operational leaders to align workload plans with financial targets, ensuring efficient cost management.
  • Identify gaps in processes, tools, or data; and support implementation of operational improvements that enhance efficiency or reduce costs.
  • Maintain and follow departmental policies, procedures, and documentation to ensure compliance with financial and regulatory requirements.
  • Advise Operational teams on financial processes and controls, including purchase order creation, work order management, and invoice approvals.
  • Prepare operational billings and ensure proper documentation is provided for accuracy and completeness of revenue capture.
  • Support training initiatives on budgeting tools, operational procedures, and analytic processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
