About The Position

Lynden Transport is looking for an Operations Assistant who provides clerical and administrative assistance to service center personnel. This role involves recording business transactions, making calculations, updating equipment status in the company computer system, monitoring trailer movements, and handling various administrative tasks. The position requires the ability to work varied shift schedules, including weekends and evenings, with potential overtime. Dependable and consistent attendance is crucial. The job will be performed at the Anchorage Service Center.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, procedure manuals, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from company personnel, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Typing speed of 40 words per minute.
  • Requires use of hands for writing, keyboarding, and 10-key for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to conduct telephone communication.

Responsibilities

  • Records details of business transactions in ledgers or on special forms, transferring entries as necessary.
  • Makes calculations for totaling accounts, determining discounts, and computing extensions.
  • Records daily details of business events in the company computer system, including equipment status updates (arrival/dispatch of tractors and trailers, loading/closing/unloading of trailers).
  • Monitors the movement of trailers in the company computer system to aid in planning for trailer arrivals.
  • Records or monitors activity on the dock or yard, such as reconciliation of timecard or weight and inspection systems.
  • Records, traces, and enters information into the company computer system.
  • Makes inquiries from the computer system.
  • Operates simple business machines.
  • Files, copies, and handles correspondence and other records.
  • Compiles and types statistical reports.
  • Answers telephones and provides information or routes calls.
  • Travels between company facilities and other designated locations using a company-supplied vehicle as needed.
  • Performs miscellaneous errands and other requested duties.
  • Counts, weighs, and records data regarding freight moved or handled.
  • Assists in the reconciliation and closing of trailers or containers.
  • Provides miscellaneous assistance to supervisors and other terminal personnel.
  • Assists with special projects as requested.
