About The Position

Supports and assists operative teams with the daily flow of operating-room activities and patient care. The role includes cleaning and disinfecting operating-room suites and related areas, transporting patients and equipment, stocking supplies, and performing other assigned duties. Successful performance helps provide safe, helpful, and courteous care to patients and support to operative teams. Tasks are initiated and performed according to established guidelines.

The position facilitates operating-room turnover between cases, prepares rooms for subsequent cases, transports patients, trays, blood gases, specimens, and equipment, and responds to operative-team requests during cases. Clear communication and effective collaboration support patient care and daily operations. The role also requires compliance with policies and standards and adherence to requirements for protecting patient health information, including applicable training, the UH Code of Conduct, and UH policies and procedures. Department-specific duties and responsibilities are provided during orientation.

Requirements

• High school equivalent or GED.
• Ability to lift and push heavy objects, including patients, supply and patient carts, beds, and equipment.
• Knowledge of safe and proper handling of hazardous waste and other substances; training is provided on the job.
• Knowledge of various positioning equipment; training is provided on the job.
• CPR skills; training is provided on the job.
• Ability to remain in constant motion.
• Basic Life Support (BLS); training is provided on the job.

Nice To Haves

• OR cleaning and disinfecting experience.
• Certified Surgical Cleaning Technician certification from the Association for Healthcare Environment.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate efficient turnover of operating rooms between cases and prepare rooms for the following case.
• Transport patients, trays, blood gases, specimens, and equipment.
• Support the operative team with requests while cases are in progress.
• Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively to enhance patient care and facilitate daily operations.
• Participate as a productive member of the OR Assistant team.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Comply with applicable policies and standards.
• Safely and securely maintain protected health information (PHI), following annual training, the UH Code of Conduct, and UH policies and procedures.
