About The Position

The Operating Room Assistant supports surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals during surgical procedures. The role involves preparing operating rooms and ensuring equipment and supplies are available, sterile, and ready. The assistant may help position, prepare, and transport patients; hold retractors during procedures; and respond to requests from the surgical team. The position also helps maintain a clean and safe environment by following infection control protocols and hospital policies.

Requirements

• Minimum education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum experience: None.
• Minimum license or certification: None.

• Previous experience in a hospital environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures.
• Ensure surgical instruments and equipment are sterile and ready.
• Assist with patient positioning and transport, including transporting patients to and from the operating room.
• Assist with retracting during procedures.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment by following infection control protocols.
• Dispose of waste materials according to hospital policies.
• Assist the surgical team as needed during procedures.
• Restock supplies and equipment in operating rooms.
• Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, and other staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• May assist with patient preparation, including shaving, cleaning, and draping.
