About The Position

Carnegie Mellon School of Music seeks individuals with Technical Direction experience and scenic fabrication skills to work with student designers in the creation and installation of scenery for the School of Music's fall and winter opera productions. This is an hourly position, with fluctuating hours from week to week. Individual must be able to read drawings, collaborate with colleagues, supervise crew and work unsupervised. The Technical Director will be responsible for installing the scenery in our theater space, supervising technical rehearsals and being on call during the 4 performances. Requires applied knowledge of materials handling, installation, assembly and safe rigging practices. Daytime and evening hours vary per the schedule. Actual responsibilities will vary depending on job function. Functional areas could include audio, piano, print shop, etc. Other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • High School or GED
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience
  • Successful background check
  • OSHA - Hazardous Materials Safety Training
  • Applied knowledge of materials handling, installation, assembly and safe rigging practices
