The Dean of Fine Arts will collaborate with school administrators, teachers/staff, parents, and selected LEA personnel to ensure that the arts takes center stage at CCA and that CCA is considered a national model for arts education. The Dean will oversee the vision for the arts at CCA, including arts offerings, scheduling, and quality of program. The Dean will also facilitate the rehearsal and performance schedule as well as PR for all performances. In addition, the Dean of Fine Arts will work to position CCA as the true center of arts in Chattanooga and will build relationships with local arts organizations while also increasing the visibility of the school. The Dean of Fine Arts will work to recruit a diverse and talented student body and will consider additional programming that will support an inclusive and diverse community. This is a full time position with 15 additional paid days. Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts, located in Chattanooga, TN, is a unique and joyful fine arts magnet school promoting academic and artistic excellence for students in grades six through twelve. The school balances a rigorous college preparatory academic program and an exemplary arts program in which students major in one of 8 options, including acting, instrumental music, communications/film, musical theater, visual art, vocal, technical theater, and dance. At CCA, we celebrate acceptance and an appreciation for cultural differences. Our staff exhibits a caring and supportive attitude towards the individuality of our students. Our school climate and culture generates positive comments from our families. We have very involved parents who volunteer on a regular basis at our more than seventy performances and artistic opportunities. We are looking for teachers who will embrace our arts theme and who enthusiastically want to be a part of a fine arts magnet school. Additionally, we are looking for teachers with professional goals and who understand that teaching with high expectations will help all students rise to their potential.

Requirements

  • Must have a passion for the arts
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially the ability to communicate and collaborate with school age students
  • Effective organizational skills, attention to detail, strong work ethic, and ability to multitask
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups.
  • Experience upholding high standards
  • Experience working in a diverse environment
  • Experience as a teacher and performing or visual artist
  • Teaching candidate must hold a valid state of Tennessee teaching certification. If you hold a teaching license in another state, you must apply for a Tennessee teaching license.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with students, educators, parents, and community members.
  • Demonstrate excellent planning, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with families, students and teachers about the arts program.
  • Explore ideas for enhancing and expanding current programs.
  • Serve as a resource to staff
  • Serve on the school-wide DEI committee and plan/implement ideas for expanding diversity of the student body.
  • Develop plans for expanding the reach of CCA as the center of arts for the community.
  • Create and maintain performance schedules, and ensure that performances are high quality.
  • Teach one arts class, one period, per day.
  • Facilitates meetings for the purpose of meeting curriculum guidelines and/or ensuring that state mandates are achieved.
  • Attend school leadership meetings, and other meetings or professional development activities with student issues in mind
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences
  • Work with teachers to explore ideas for arts integration in core content areas.
