About The Position

Under general supervision, plan and administer open space, trails, and parks programs and projects and related activities. This role involves analyzing open space, trail, and park conditions, developing projects to meet master plan goals, and conducting research to determine feasibility. The coordinator will interact with public and private agencies to coordinate project implementation, administer capital funds and grants, and supervise assigned personnel, including volunteers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in parks and recreation, public administration, planning, architecture or urban design.
  • Two (2) years of professional administrative experience.
  • One (1) year open space, trail, park and/or natural resource conservation implementation experience.
  • Valid Texas Class "C" driver's license or equivalent from another state.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze open space, trail, and park conditions and develop projects to attain master plan goals and strategic initiatives.
  • Prepare and review property information, conduct community and other research, and determine feasibility of plans for programs or projects.
  • Recommend alternate plans and obtain design details for projects requiring special design considerations.
  • Prepare reports of findings.
  • Interact with public and private agencies to elicit support and coordinate project and program implementation.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on open space, trails and parks to property owners, civic groups, and government agency representatives.
  • Participate in the development of policy guidelines and recommendations.
  • Interact with schools, community, business, and utility representatives to obtain easements, usage approvals or to overcome obstacles.
  • Represent the department and the city at public meetings.
  • Administer capital funds and grants for open space, trails and park acquisition and improvements, as assigned.
  • Formulate administrative policies and procedures necessary to the operations of the programs.
  • Prepare estimates and budgets.
  • Monitor program implementation activities and schedules.
  • Meet with local, state, or federal officials to coordinate program activities.
  • Compile and submit reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Supervise assigned personnel, including volunteers.
  • Schedule, assign, instruct, guide, check and evaluate work.
  • Arrange for training.
  • Enforce personnel rules and regulations, standards of conduct, work attendance, and safe work practices.
  • Recommend staffing or volunteer status changes.
  • Interview employee and volunteer applicants and recommend selection.
