The University of New Mexico•Albuquerque, NM

About The Position

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences seeks a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist for an academic faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level on the Open Track. The successful candidate will join the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and contribute to the department’s clinical, educational, and research missions. The position is intended for a clinician-scientist interested in maintaining an independent research program. Half of the position’s effort will involve clinical activities in Children’s Psychiatric Center Outpatient Services, including evaluating and treating children and adolescents and supervising residents, fellows, and other trainees through clinical and didactic teaching. The other half will be protected for research, including developing and conducting an independent research program within the division. The department will provide research start-up funds of $25,000 annually for up to three years to support equipment, supplies, research personnel, and related scholarly activities. The protected research time and start-up support are intended to facilitate continuation of an externally funded research program within three years. Continued protected research effort after the initial support period depends on obtaining external funding and demonstrating scholarly productivity. The Department Chair may reallocate unfunded research effort to clinical, teaching, administrative, or other academic duties. The selected candidate will have opportunities for multicultural clinical care, collaborative scholarship, mentorship, leadership development, and educational activities involving medical students, residents, fellows, postdoctoral trainees, and learners in related disciplines. Research collaborations are available across the Health Sciences Center and New Mexico, including work focused on child mental health, community-based interventions, population health, and health disparities. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with training, experience, and academic accomplishments. A complete application includes a cover letter addressing the minimum and preferred qualifications and describing accomplishments and future goals, a current CV, and contact information for three professional references. The position remains open until filled; best consideration is given to applications submitted by October 29, 2026.
