Online Learning Student Assistant (Student Worker)
About The Position
Genesee Community College (GCC), founded in 1966 as part of the State University of New York (SUNY), is a student-centered collegiate community serving a 2500 square mile region. GCC offers over 75 academic degrees, certificates, and micro-credentials across multiple campus locations in Western New York. The college is known for its cutting-edge technology, including Hyflex and smart classrooms, computer labs, and science labs. With a 14:1 student-to-faculty ratio in both onsite and online learning, GCC provides ample one-to-one teaching and learning opportunities. Requirements
- Customer service-oriented with excellent phone communication skills
- Friendly online persona and willingness to interact in virtual spaces
- Experience with Brightspace (ideal candidate will have some online course experience)
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Willing to learn about online courses and how they differ from in-person
- Dependable, professional, and organized
- Enthusiastic GCC student with a positive attitude
- Currently registered to attend Genesee Community College
Nice To Haves
- Experience with video creation/editing is a plus, but not required
Responsibilities
- Make phone calls and assist with mailings to new online students
- Assist with open house/orientation activities, both virtually and in-person
- Monitor and participate in Online Learning virtual student communities
- Assist students with Brightspace, Microsoft 365, and college email use
- Optionally, assist in the development of Online Learning content videos and VR spaces
- Assist Online Learning staff with various projects
