About The Position

The One on One Aide is assigned exclusively to one child for a specified period and provides individualized support to a child who needs specific attention in an after-school program. The role is during the school year for 17.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The aide works with the classroom teacher and/or administrator and communicates with the child’s family, school-day teachers, special education department, and other team members.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Knowledge of classroom environments, special education environments, safety issues, and the needs of special education students.
• Oral and written communication skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of special education software.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and maintain individualized help and assistance for a child with special needs within an after-school program environment.
• Reinforce material initially taught directly by after-school educators.
• Maintain or modify the child’s curriculum and enrichment activities to meet the child’s needs.
• Follow any behavior plans.
• Communicate daily with parents or guardians, school-day teachers, the special education department, and other team members working with the child.
• Maintain a daily activity log documenting progress.
• Attend parent/educator conferences as required.
• Perform other duties as necessary and assigned by the classroom teacher and/or administrator.
