About The Position

The One on One Special Education Aide works individually with a student, monitoring them in the classroom, lunch room, bathroom area, hallways, and during recess. The aide assists with classroom activities, collects behavior data, and assists with other classes as directed by a supervisor and/or principal. The position is a 179-day contract. Salary is based on step 1 through step 30 of the Van Buren School District classified salary schedule.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Pass a clean background check.
• Pass the Paraprofessional Assessment at hire or have 60 college hours.
• Participate in required Paraprofessional module trainings provided by ADE.
• Be able to stand for the majority of the school day.
• Be able to reach, bend, stoop, lift, carry, and squat to assist students as needed.
• Be able to walk short distances to escort the student between classrooms.
• Be able to walk on uneven surfaces, such as a playground.
• Be able to run or chase a student who runs from the classroom, line, or other area.
• Be able to work outside in all weather conditions for assigned duties, including recess, before-school drop-offs, and after-school pick-ups.
