Offshore MCU Project Engineering Lead

GE Vernova
•$132,200 - $220,400•Remote

About The Position

Join GE Vernova’s GE Wind Offshore MCU Department, which defines the offshore Main Component Update (MCU) strategy for wind turbine components and provides methods, transport, tools, and workforce for offshore projects. The MCU service covers offshore activities from vessel load-out through completion of mechanical and electrical operations. The role initially manages the project engineering team for MCU and oversees engineering across offshore wind farms for Haliade 150 and Haliade-X, working closely with the installation vessel supplier, and subsequently oversees the offshore wind turbine MCU scope. The position leads engineering for MCU tendering, preparation, and offshore execution. It develops offshore planning, cost estimates, feasibility assessments, weather downtime analyses, standards, lifting documentation, and operational methods. It coordinates with project teams, marine contractors, customers, the Marine Warranty Surveyor, sourcing, and other subcontractors to prepare and execute offshore work safely and effectively. The role reports project status to the MCU Package Manager and is hierarchically integrated into the MCU Operations department. It supervises engineers and drafters, monitors engineering hours and budgets, sets priorities with department managers, and serves as a key technical contact for clients and third parties. The position is remote, with offshore mobilization or support as needed during installation campaigns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in wind energy, construction, or oil and gas industry/operations.
  • Experience in offshore operations and Transport & Installation (T&I) engineering within large EPCI or T&I contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare offshore MCU planning and cost estimates for the MCU package during tendering.
  • Assess MCU feasibility from an engineering standpoint against vessels available on the market.
  • Perform metocean analysis and determine weather-related downtime for tenders.
  • Maintain standard tender documentation and develop offshore operations guidelines and standards.
  • Review and comment on lifting plans and rigging drawings, prepare lifting sketches for bids, and collaborate with marine contractors on preliminary lifting plans and deck layouts.
  • Review and approve lifting plans, MCU manuals, and method statements prepared by the project MCU team for tower pre-assembly, WTG component load-out, and offshore operations.
  • Collaborate with the Marine Warranty Surveyor, customer, and MCU contractor on plans, sea-fastening design, and offshore operation sequencing.
  • Ensure Risk Assessments and Method Statements are maintained in GE's ServiceMax digital document management system.
  • Review and validate lifting plans and assign deck layout engineering to the MCU contractor.
  • Prepare equipment lists and bills of materials for package execution.
  • Coordinate with Sourcing on procurement and mobilization of tooling and spare parts, and ensure MCU tools are ready on schedule.
  • Support the MCU Package Manager in preparing scopes of work for MCU labor contracts.
  • Prepare pre-operation HAZID sessions with EHS.
  • Ensure the developed MCU strategy is applied and followed offshore.
  • Provide technical support to offshore construction managers.
  • Validate integration of sea-fastening and grillage, as well as the as-built deck layout.
  • Anticipate obstacles to the MCU sequence and organize support from the back office and project team.
  • Revise, update, or validate MCU documentation during offshore installation as needed.
  • Promote GE's EHS culture during documentation preparation and operational support.
  • Apply back-office standards and guidelines to projects, adapting to project schedules and providing clients with accurate, specific documentation.
  • Develop lifting plans and WTG MCU manuals in accordance with GE safety standards, offshore wind industry standards, and local regulations.
  • Produce progress reports on MCU interfaces with marine subcontractors and identify engineering solutions that satisfy offshore performance needs.
  • Supervise engineers and drafters covering offshore MCU engineering, including heavy lifts, sea-fastening, and wind turbine component assembly manuals.
  • Monitor hours spent on technical studies, report to the MCU Package Manager and MCU service, and review and size the engineering budget and team accordingly.
  • Participate in individual engineering reviews and set priorities with department managers.
  • Apply the back-office package strategy to meet client needs for execution deliverables.
  • Serve as a key technical point of contact with the client, Marine Warranty Surveyor, and other third parties.
  • Manage technical interfaces with the client and project subcontractors to support contract execution.
  • Report project status to the MCU Package Manager.
