About The Position

Serves as an Office Automation Clerk in the Medical Records Department at Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock Service Unit, Shiprock, NM. Provides receptionist, clerical, and office support while assisting with Personal Health Record implementation and registration, including patient communication, education, and customer service. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

Requirements

  • This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.
  • Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Background Investigation Requirement: This position requires the successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment.
  • Financial Suitability Requirement: This position requires a review of the applicant's financial history as part of the personnel security and suitability determination. Applicants must demonstrate financial responsibility, maintain good credit, and satisfy all legal financial obligations.
  • Prior to the appointment, candidates must present two valid forms of identification. If one of the documents is a state-issued ID or driver's license, it must be REAL ID-compliant.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-04: At least one (1) year of general experience. General Experience -- Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
  • OR Two years above high school.
  • Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
  • Must be fluent in the use of the Navajo Language, including the ability to translate from Navajo to English and vice versa.
  • Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, Privacy Act, and patient confidentiality requirements.
  • Provides patient support, troubleshooting, and education for personal health record and direct messaging enrollment.
  • Maintains accurate patient records, account linkages, and enrollment information in electronic health record and patient management systems.
  • Provides professional reception and telephone support, directing inquiries to the appropriate staff.
  • Prepares, maintains, files, and updates records and reports as requested by supervisors.
  • Provides patient assistance and customer service in both English and Navajo, helping patients establish and enroll in their Indian Health Service Personal Health Record online accounts and access their health information.
