About The Position

The Ocean Export Specialist is responsible for coordinating and executing international ocean export shipments in a third-party logistics environment. This role manages the movement of freight from origin through final destination, ensuring accuracy, compliance with regulations, and timely delivery while providing a high level of customer service.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the logistics industry or other customer-service field
  • Desire to analyze and understand processes
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple shipments or tasks simultaneously
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook
  • Experience using transportation management systems (TMS) or similar platforms preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle ocean export shipments, including FCL and LCL cargo
  • Arrange bookings with ocean carriers, NVOCCs, and overseas agents
  • Coordinate trucking, drayage, and warehouse handling as required
  • Monitor shipment progress to ensure adherence to schedules
  • Prepare and review export documentation including commercial invoices, packing lists, and bills of lading
  • Complete and/or verify AES (EEI) filings as required
  • Ensure compliance with applicable export regulations (EAR, OFAC, and other regulatory agencies)
  • Maintain accurate and complete shipment records
  • Serve as a point of contact for customers regarding shipment status and documentation
  • Provide timely updates, including notification of delays or exceptions
  • Respond to customer inquiries and resolve issues as they arise
  • Communicate with internal departments, including warehousing and trucking operations
  • Coordinate with international agents to ensure proper handling at destination
  • Identify and resolve shipment issues such as delays, rolled cargo, or documentation discrepancies
  • Review vendor invoices for accuracy
  • Ensure correct rating and billing of customer shipments
  • Monitor shipments for cost efficiency and adherence to quoted pricing
  • Enter and maintain shipment data in company systems
  • Track key shipment milestones and update records as required
  • Utilize carrier and internal systems for shipment visibility
