The Occupational Therapist (OT) assesses and treats assigned adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, collaborating with patients and families to develop and implement comprehensive treatment programs. The OT helps patients develop, regain, or maintain the ability to perform daily activities and adapts treatment based on periodic reassessment. Programmatic processes may vary across the center, and the OT is expected to meet competencies identified for each program. The position provides PRN Saturday coverage and may involve floating to inpatient or post-acute programs for evaluations or treatment sessions as needed. The OT provides skilled, evidence-based interventions; supports patient goals through Goal Attainment Scaling; and communicates with patients and families about plans of care, progress, and transitions to the next level of care. The role includes recommending specialty services and durable medical equipment, contributing to discharge planning, documenting care according to Center policy, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and applicable policies and procedures. The OT follows safety practices, reports injuries, accidents, and other safety issues, and identifies and supports resolution of potential risks. The OT participates in patient team conferences, staff meetings, program or discipline committees, and center-wide efforts affecting occupational therapy practice. The role may include teaching or supervising students and participating in research projects. The OT is expected to uphold Shepherd Center standards and values, build professional relationships with other occupational therapists, and adapt to changing work demands and environments.
