OT Occupational Therapist
About The Position
The Occupational Therapist will participate in evaluations of social-emotional wellness, sensory functions, specific mental functions, muscle functions, and body structures as related to functional engagement in activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, education, play, leisure, and social participation. Depending on assignment, the therapist will perform specific therapy responsibilities to support clients in various settings including: outpatient clinic, school-based, and/or alternative education. The role involves providing skilled intervention per written plan of care utilizing client and family centered practices, building therapeutic relationships with parents/guardians for coaching and training, and serving as an advocate and resource in occupational therapy. The therapist will also attend in-service presentations and professional meetings, provide close supervision to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants, maintain regular contact with their manager/supervisor, and complete all assigned outcome measurements. Specific responsibilities are outlined for Outpatient Clinic and School-Based settings, including interdisciplinary treatment, documentation aligned with billing entities and state/federal guidelines, participation in team meetings, promoting appropriate selection of Complex Rehabilitation Technology, and implementing interventions for positioning, mobility, access, functional skills, academic success, communication, and social skills.
Requirements
- Master’s degree (bachelor’s degree considered based on experience) in Occupational Therapy
- Licensed in the state of Ohio
- Certification by the American Occupational Therapy Association
- Ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
- A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years related work experience required
- Possess a valid Ohio driver’s license with no more than two (2) moving violations
- Have reliable daily transportation

Responsibilities
- Participate in evaluations of social-emotional wellness, sensory functions, specific mental functions, muscle functions, and body structures as related to functional engagement in activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, education, play, leisure, and social participation.
- Provide skilled intervention per written plan of care utilizing client and family centered practices promoted by Occupational Therapy Practice Framework (OTPF).
- Build therapeutic relationships with parents and/or guardians in order to provide coaching and training on how to incorporate activities of engagement into their child’s natural context for improved acquisition and generalization of skills.
- Serve as an advocate and resource in occupational therapy to other staff, parents, family members, community partners, board members, and other parties as required.
- Attend in-service presentations and professional meetings for knowledge translation.
- Provide close supervision to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant(s) through regular collaboration on treatment plans, training on relevant intervention strategies, and assurance of all agency policies.
- Maintain regular contact with manager/supervisor to ensure premier service delivery, continuity of care, and rapid resolution of client/family needs.
- Complete all outcome measurements assigned by front office or administration staff in a timely and efficient manner.
- Participate in interdisciplinary treatment of clients in all therapeutic settings, demonstrating the ability to collaborate effectively on treatment plans and communication with all members for optimum performance outcomes.
- Maintain documentation aligned with standards set forth by billing entities, CARF, and Medicaid. Documentation includes an electronic medical record system (EMR) as well as letters of medical necessity (LMN), alternative funding requests, and others as assigned.
- Engage in weekly team meetings and present on client specific information in a precise and developed manner that takes into consideration all of the needs of the child/family.
- Promote appropriate selection of Complex Rehabilitation Technology (CRT) for improved posture, normalization of tone, and increased occupational engagement.
- Complete documentation in a timely manner in accordance with the Department of Education (DOE), the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) and state Medicaid including Evaluation Team Report (ETR), Individualized Education Program (IEP), progress reporting and plan of care documents.
- Implement interventions, adaptations, and modifications that support positioning, mobility, access, functional skills (toileting, eating, grooming, dressing), academic success, communication, and social skills as assigned by the related services team to include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy. This includes regular personal care for the health and safety of all students. (Alternative Education setting)
- Support Teaching Assistants and Intervention in implementation of selected activities, handling techniques, and use of adaptive equipment. (Alternative Education setting)
- Engage in therapeutic team discussion and planning for independent scheduling of caseload students following state guidelines and district preferences.
- Maintain daily documentation as established per school district. Follow district specific protocols for storage of documentation and records.
- Participate in team meetings/discussion for document review and future planning with essential school professionals including but not limited to: Intervention Specialist(s) (IS), Physical Therapist (PT), Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP), school psychologist, and other district representatives.
- Collaborate with teachers and teaching assistants for carry-over of therapeutic interventions and to optimize tier one and tier two intervention strategies.
- Maintain open and clear communication with manager/supervisor for facilitation of positive relationships between district administration and LeafBridge administration.
