About The Position

Community Connections for Work Experience, LLC is seeking an innovative, community-minded Occupational Therapist for our Supported Employment/Work Experience Program for individuals living with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). This role integrates the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework (OTPF) throughout all vocational programming, therapeutic interventions, work evaluations, and community-based experiences to support meaningful occupational participation and long-term independence. The therapist will develop, implement, and oversee individualized vocational programming within therapeutic environments that are safe and supportive of resident autonomy, dignity, and rights. This includes completing vocational and functional work evaluations, providing therapeutic interventions emphasizing IADLs, executive functioning, social participation, behavioral self-regulation, work tolerance, and employability skills, and utilizing advanced clinical reasoning to create innovative, individualized strategies. The role also involves designing and facilitating curriculum-based vocational programming, establishing onboarding and training systems, developing collaborative relationships with community employers, and serving as a liaison with vocational partners. Direct and indirect vocational coaching, supervision, and support to residents in community work placements will be provided, along with monitoring resident performance and supporting residents in identifying strengths and ambitions. The therapist will demonstrate competency in business development concepts and collaborate effectively with external stakeholders. Additionally, the role includes developing and implementing program policies, leading therapeutic groups, providing transportation for residents, and maintaining accurate clinical documentation. All duties are to be performed in a professional and ethical manner, consistent with Occupational Therapy standards of practice, organizational values, and company policies. Ongoing continuing education is also required.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Occupational Therapy program
  • State licensure as an Occupational Therapist
  • Possess and maintain BLS certification
  • Possess and maintain valid Michigan Operator’s License

Responsibilities

  • Integrate the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework (OTPF) throughout all vocational programming, therapeutic interventions, work evaluations, and community-based experiences to support meaningful occupational participation and long-term independence.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee individualized vocational programming within therapeutic environments that are safe and supportive of resident autonomy, dignity, and rights.
  • Complete Occupational Therapy vocational and functional work evaluations to determine appropriate placement, identify strengths and barriers, assess compensatory strategy needs, and support individualized goal development.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions within on-site work environments and community settings, emphasizing instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs), executive functioning, social participation, behavioral self-regulation, work tolerance, and employability skills.
  • Utilize advanced clinical reasoning and critical thinking skills to create innovative, individualized strategies that support resident success in structured and semi-independent work environments.
  • Design and facilitate curriculum-based vocational programming focused on: Soft skills training (time management, communication, workplace etiquette, teamwork, customer service), Executive functioning and compensatory strategies, Entrepreneurship and creative vocational exploration, Technology and computer skills, Community resource education and workplace accommodations, Business organization, inventorying, bookkeeping, shipping, and e-commerce operations.
  • Establish onboarding and training systems for program participants that account for various learning styles, cognitive abilities, behavioral needs, and adaptive supports.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community employers, volunteer sites, and vocational enclaves to expand meaningful work opportunities for residents.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Community Connections for Work Experience, LLC and community-based vocational partners, promoting therapeutic success and long-term collaboration.
  • Provide direct and indirect vocational coaching, supervision, and support to residents within community work placements.
  • Monitor resident performance, tolerance, engagement, attendance, and goal progression within vocational settings while adapting interventions and expectations as clinically indicated.
  • Support residents in identifying strengths, interests, avocations, and long-term vocational ambitions.
  • Demonstrate competency and enthusiasm for business development concepts including customer service, entrepreneurship, social media/e-commerce platforms, and organizational systems that support program growth and resident learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate effectively with external stakeholders through professional verbal and written communication.
  • Develop and implement Work Experience Program policies, procedures, systems, and documentation standards in accordance with organizational philosophy, ethical standards, and evidence-based practice.
  • Lead therapeutic groups and community-based programming that support social participation, vocational readiness, leisure exploration, behavioral regulation, and resident treatment objectives.
  • Provide transportation for residents to vocational sites, appointments, and community outings as needed.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and professional clinical documentation in accordance with company policy, payer requirements, and standards of Occupational Therapy practice.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in a professional and ethical manner consistent with Occupational Therapy standards of practice, organizational values, and Community Connections for Independent Living, LLC policies and procedures.
  • Complete relevant ongoing continuing education and additional training, as indicated.
