About The Position

The purpose of this position is to have an individual who can assess students in terms of their fine motor skills. This role involves managing the learning environment by utilizing effective diagnostic techniques, advocating for a standards-based, student-centered environment, and properly using testing materials. The position requires maintaining a pleasant, neat, and organized office, performing scheduled duties promptly, and fulfilling paperwork responsibilities. The therapist must maintain professional competence through in-service education and demonstrate thorough knowledge of the content area. Additionally, the role involves teacher/pupil/parent interaction, assuming responsibility for a safe and supportive testing environment, relating well to students of varied proficiency, and promoting opportunities for students to develop a wholesome self-concept. The therapist will guide students toward self-control, provide effective student structure, accept responsibility for the well-being of each assigned student, and remain approachable to students and parents. A positive and effective working relationship between school and home is also a key aspect of this role. The professional is expected to adhere to the academic, ethical, and social standards of the profession, speak and write clearly, dress appropriately, accept constructive criticism, apply suggestions for improvement, use confidential information appropriately, be equitable and sensitive to all learners, maintain good attendance, and participate in ongoing professional development. In terms of teacher/staff relations, the therapist should help promote positive working relationships, be willing to share ideas and materials, work effectively with administrative personnel, accept and implement school and district decisions, fulfill assigned duties, and comply with school department procedures and policies. The supervision scope includes supervising students and evaluating their achievement, and the therapist will be supervised by the principal and/or director.

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Licensure from Massachusetts as an Occupational Therapist

  • Currency in diagnostic and prescriptive evaluation instruments and techniques
  • Effective planning of caseload and testing of students in a timely manner
  • Effective presentation of findings orally and in writing
