About The Position

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a dynamic and organized Occupational Health Nurse for its 2nd shift operations in Champaign, IL. This role is within the Product Support and Logistics Division and operates within the Corporate Medical Department. The Occupational Health Nurse will apply clinical occupational nursing practices in a large, high-volume medical clinic environment. This position requires an autonomous and skilled nurse who can independently manage most clinical situations, respond to medical emergencies, and serve as a liaison for medical data and HIPAA compliance. The role also involves supporting HR and Compensation & Benefits in managing disability plans and payroll policies, evaluating medical documentation for leave and accommodations, and collaborating with occupational physicians on return-to-work readiness. The nurse will also provide health coaching, referrals, and contribute to the continuous improvement of case management processes, ensuring regulatory compliance with FMLA and ADA.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Illinois
  • 3-5 years of nursing experience
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to learn and manipulate various on-line databases

Responsibilities

  • Delivery of comprehensive nursing services related to employee illness and injury
  • Function as an autonomous nurse with the ability to respond independently to the majority of clinical situations
  • Respond to and even lead on-site medical emergency response
  • Represent the Corporate Medical Department, its policies and strategy
  • Seek ways to innovate, improve and create best-in-class occupational medical practices
  • Provide case management services for employees on medical leave of absence from work
  • Act as the centralized repository for medical data and the HIPAA-compliant liaison
  • Support C+B and HR in the administration of various disability plans and payroll policies
  • Receive and critically evaluate medical documentation to determine the need for medical leave and the appropriateness of both medical restrictions and accommodations
  • Consult and provide feedback to employees and providers on evidence bases practice guidelines
  • Provide occupational support, health coaching and referrals to appropriate care
  • Assist occupational physicians in evaluating readiness for return-to-work
  • Compile and maintain accurate and complete records within appropriate database(s)
  • Serve as a member of the disability management team in the ongoing improvement of the case management processes
  • Provide appropriate referrals for regulatory compliance with Family Medical Leave Act and Americans with Disabilities Act
