About The Position

A wonderful family located near Cora Thomas Elementary in Richmond, TX (77469) is seeking a compassionate and reliable babysitter to care for their 2.5-year-old daughter on days when she is home from school due to illness or closures. The ideal candidate is attentive, patient, and comfortable providing gentle care, including monitoring symptoms, preparing simple meals, encouraging rest, and ensuring the child remains comfortable throughout the day. The family is looking for someone who prioritizes hygiene and safety while also fostering a warm, engaging environment and proactively supporting the child’s daily needs. This is an as-needed, ongoing position with no guaranteed hours, typically requiring 5 to 7 hours per visit. The family can usually provide 24+ hours notice. The child has allergies to cashews, hazelnuts, almonds, and avocado, which must be strictly avoided.

Requirements

Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Minimum of 2 years of paid, professional childcare experience
Comfortable caring for a child with mild to moderate illness
CPR certified (or willing to become certified)
High school diploma or equivalent
Able to provide 2 professional childcare references
Able to pass background and social media screening
Up to date on vaccinations (including COVID, flu, HPV)

Nice To Haves

Someone who is open to additional evening and weekend hours is a plus

Responsibilities

Provide attentive care and comfort when the child is home sick
Engage the child in age-appropriate, educational play while a parent works from home
Follow established nap schedule
Prepare snacks and meals while encouraging hydration and regular eating
Perform light child-related cleaning (e.g., dishes, tidying toys)
Change diapers/pull-ups as needed (child is potty training)
Apply eczema ointment and monitor skin as needed
Encourage proper hygiene, including regular handwashing
Respect family preferences (e.g., no kissing on the face)
