About The Position

The Designer develops CAD surfacing, the modeling & design of models and molds to create prototype fiberglass parts, drape forms, foam & wood models. Design mechanism or framework for prototype builds.

Requirements

Extensive background in CAD Design, surface modeling, B-side design and mold/die/fixture design with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
General knowledge of automotive engineering standards required.
Ability to follow direction and work within predetermined timelines established within the project quote.
High School Diploma required.
Prior working knowledge of Catia V5 or NX11 software.
Needs to be a self-starter with proficiency in budgeting time.

Responsibilities

Responsible for creating innovative design concepts and complete product designs in 3D, and drawing release per engineering direction.
Coordinate design-related workload with designated Design Engineer.
Apply engineering principles to design, modify or develop components for low-volume or prototype applications.
Recommend materials for project applications.
Responsible for designing tooling molds/fixtures for prototype manufacturing.
Create run-off surface for milling.
Develop drawings for foam glue-up sizes.
Design steel tube framework for models; lay out full assembly of components.
Creation of models for release.
Follows drawing release and engineering change processes and capable of performing all clash/clearance checks necessary.
Follows applicable Design for Manufacturing standards for part creation.
Provides applicable support to the Design Engineer to create applicable Bill of Materials for projects.
Assist shop floor with any assembly issues during prototype manufacturing.
Use a first principles based approach to problem solving.
Participate in cross-functional teams to quickly and efficiently solve complex problems as they arrive.
