About The Position

The Nutrition Services Senior Technician supports efficient, high-quality service for patients, team members, and visitors. The role helps lead exceptional meal service, resolves service challenges, and supports smooth department operations. It provides comprehensive training for new Nutrition Services hires in diet standards, food safety, patient-focused service, and department workflows, and prepares the employee to assist as department lead when needed. The position is based at Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids and is scheduled for 40 hours per week, from 12 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., on variable days and every other weekend.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 6 months of relevant experience in food service, preferably in a health care setting, or a related field.
• CRT-Accredited Food Protection Manager certification (CFP—ANSI National Accreditation Board) within 90 days.

Nice To Haves

• Associate degree in Hospitality or Nutrition.
• At least 6 months of leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop, communicate, and uphold organizational procedures and policies, ensuring staff are properly trained and comply with established standards.
• Train new Nutrition Services hires in diet standards, food safety protocols, patient-focused service, and department workflows, including the Call Center, Trayline, Tray Delivery, Dish Room, and Nourishments.
• Assist as department lead as needed, providing oversight and support for smooth daily operations.
• Answer inquiries from patients, team members, nursing staff, and visitors.
• Reallocate team members during staffing shortages.
• Address team members professionally and appropriately in a high-volume food service environment.
• Communicate clearly and collaborate with staff, peers, and leadership to promote transparency, teamwork, and operational efficiency.
• Share information, support problem-solving, and contribute to a culture of trust, respect, and continuous improvement.
