About The Position

Assists the School Nutrition Supervisor in the efficient operation of the cafeteria by preparing and serving nutritious, attractive meals for students and staff in a pleasant environment while maintaining a clean and sanitary work area. The role supports meal preparation and service, food safety, sanitation, inventory, recordkeeping, and courteous customer service. It may include cashier duties using a point-of-sale terminal and preparing bag lunches and snacks for school programs.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
At least six months of quantity food preparation or related experience.
Successfully pass a background check.
Test negative on a tuberculosis (TB) skin test.

Responsibilities

Prepare food for student and staff meals by checking menus and schedules, following recipes or instructions, assembling ingredients and utensils, cooking, serving, and cleaning up.
Assemble bag lunches and prepare snacks for school programs as required.
Monitor and record cooking times and temperatures to ensure food is thoroughly heated in accordance with HACCP requirements.
Follow personal safety and sanitation procedures and maintain clean preparation areas, storerooms, freezers, refrigerators, and equipment.
Set up serving lines, keep serving areas clean, ensure serving utensils are available, and serve appropriate portions.
Maintain sanitation of equipment and food preparation, serving, and storage areas; safely handle and store utensils, pans, serving ware, and cookware.
Assist with stocking supplies, monitor inventory, and rotate food products as scheduled.
Serve as cashier when needed, operating a point-of-sale terminal.
Perform duties in compliance with school, District, and Health Department policies, procedures, and quality and safety standards.
Prepare accurate work records and enter or retrieve computer data as needed.
Attend training and meetings to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills.
Provide courteous and friendly service to customers and staff.
Perform other related duties as assigned or directed.
