About The Position

The Nutrition Assistant collaborates with nutrition and hospital staff to support the care and wellness of patients, staff, and visitors at Northern Arizona Healthcare. Working with clinical dietitians and cooks, the position prepares and serves food using menus, recipes, production sheets, tally sheets, cooking equipment, and safe food-handling techniques. The Nutrition Assistant ensures food is high quality and prepared, cooked, and served according to specified recipes and procedures, while following NAH policies and applicable CMS, county, and other regulatory requirements.

The role also supports dish room activities, cashiering, the call center, and the patient tray line. It requires familiarity with the electronic patient menu system and taking room-service meal orders in accordance with dietary guidelines and protocols. The Nutrition Assistant may help train new staff and assist with staff schedules. The role includes cross-training and work in several kitchen and food-service areas.

Requirements

• Coconino County Food Handler's Card within 30 days of hire.
• Understanding of computers and competence using computers and basic software programs.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate knowledge of the dietary office system and access patient diet lists and the electronic diet office system.
• Prepare food for patients and the café line.
• Provide dish room assistance as needed and scheduled.
• Check patient trays for diet modifications and accuracy during meal service.
• Prepare and deliver patient trays, nourishments, and snacks.
• Work at the presentation station serving food.
• Work as a cashier during lunch periods and as scheduled.
• Fill, deliver, record billing in Catertrax, and stock food and supplies on nursing inpatient and outpatient units or departments.
• Prepare Grab and Go items and maintain par levels for the patient tray line and café.
• Substitute as a barista to cover PTO and call-off needs.
• Cross-train and work in several kitchen areas.
• Work as a cashier at the café, coffee shop, or gift shop.
• Stock and fill campus vending machines.
• Sort supplies for patient pantry units.
• Follow Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) requirements.
• Follow master cleaning guidelines as part of the job routine or when requested.
• Clean service ware by removing debris, washing, rinsing, sanitizing, and air-drying it before storage.
• Follow infection precautions when delivering trays and snacks to patient rooms.
• Clean and maintain the workstation by washing, rinsing, and sanitizing it before, during, and after food preparation.
• Report safety-related incidents promptly through the Midas/RDE tool, attend safety training, work safely, monitor the work environment for safety issues, and ensure others work safely.
• Stay current with state and federal regulations, statutes, and company policies that affect the area of responsibility.
• Keep required certifications or licenses current and valid before expiration, if applicable to the position.
• Complete mandatory company modules and required job-specific training within the specified time frame.
• Take room-service meal orders in the call center using the electronic patient menu system and following dietary guidelines and protocols.
• May participate in training new staff and assisting with staff schedules.
