About The Position

The Nursing Information Specialist will manage and optimize the use of healthcare information systems to support nursing operations and improve patient care delivery. This role will collaborate with clinical staff to ensure accurate data entry, system functionality, and compliance with healthcare regulations. The Nursing Information Specialist will also provide training and support to staff on system usage and assist in data analysis for quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Human Resources, Finance, Sales, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related discipline) from an accredited institution preferred.
  • Additional certifications or specialized training may be required depending on the function (e.g., Certified Human Resources Professional (PHR) for HR roles, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) for Finance roles, etc.).
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in the specific functional area (e.g., HR, Finance, Sales, Marketing, Operations, etc.).
  • Experience in healthcare, correctional healthcare, or a regulated industry is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in applying function-specific skills (e.g., employee relations for HR, financial reporting for Finance, or sales strategy for Sales) is required.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry-specific regulations, compliance standards, and best practices may be required, particularly for roles in highly regulated functions like HR and Finance.
  • Relevant industry certifications based on the role (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP, CPA, etc.).
  • Active CPR/BLS certificate required (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved), if role is located in a correctional facility.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement informatics solutions, data structures, and decision-support systems to optimize patient care and healthcare operations.
  • Collaborate with health professionals to select and test new or modified informatics solutions for improved human-computer interactions in healthcare settings.
  • Support the implementation and coordination of EMR/EHR systems, ensuring seamless integration into daily workflows.
  • Apply knowledge of computer science, information science, and nursing practice to analyze patient, nursing, and system data, improving clinical services and outcomes.
  • Identify and interpret opportunities for clinical process improvements through data analysis and informatics solutions.
  • Support end-users in EMR/EHR systems, providing technical assistance and troubleshooting non-complex issues.
  • Lead training efforts for clinical and administrative staff, translating clinical needs into actionable informatics solutions.
  • Design and deliver educational programs and training materials, including manuals, workshops, and seminars, to enhance staff competency in clinical technology usage.
  • Facilitate front-end user education and ensure consistent training across sites, aligning with Mediko's training goals and client requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, correctional healthcare standards, and institutional guidelines in the use of clinical technology and data management.
  • Assist in reviewing, interpreting, and implementing policies related to EMR/EHR processes, ensuring alignment with regulatory and contract requirements.
  • Represent the needs of the correctional healthcare community, advocating for client requirements in the context of EMR/EHR solutions.
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to translate clinical requirements into effective health information systems for clinical use and training purposes.
  • Work with corporate, regional, and site management to ensure compliance with contract-specific training needs and operational expectations.
  • Participate in audits to assess staff training needs, identifying areas for improvement and developing strategies for new and existing staff.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and technology adoption, contributing to the continuous improvement of the correctional healthcare environment.
  • Respond to requests from Mediko, clients, and security staff, following facility guidelines and maintaining professionalism at all times.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
