About The Position

Within the context of a client-centred framework and continuum-based care model, and in accordance with the standards of professional practice and Code of Ethics for a Registered Nurse, the Clinical Informatics Specialist promotes the integration of computer and communications technologies and clinical change initiatives. This role automates and/or enhances evidence-based clinical practices, improves access to patient/client information, and streamlines clinical documentation via the Electronic Health Record (EHR). The Specialist collaborates with clinical leaders, service and program managers and directors, physicians, and staff. As an integral regional and/or Community of Care (CoC) based member of a multi-disciplinary Clinical Informatics team, the Clinical Informatics Specialist works to increase the effectiveness, efficiency, accountability, and sustainability of clinical initiatives that assist in the successful transitioning to a fully integrated EHR throughout VCH programs and services.

Requirements

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in a health care environment.
  • Extensive experience using related computer technology.
  • Extensive experience in clinical change management.
  • Extensive experience in project leadership.
  • Experience designing, implementing and supporting clinical systems.
  • Previous experience in Emergency and Medicine clinical informatics portfolio required.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, presentation, oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice in effective problem solving techniques.
  • Advanced computer skills with current multiple applications relevant to the role.

  • Local area travel may require the use of a vehicle for which mileage is reimbursed in accordance with the current Collective Agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes the integration of computer and communications technologies and clinical change initiatives that automate and/or enhance evidence-based clinical practices, access to patient/client information and clinical documentation via the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

  • Supports the integration of evidence-based practice in the delivery of quality care/services.
  • Demonstrates experience in policy and procedure development and/or clinical documentation standards, business process analysis and reengineering techniques.
  • Demonstrates knowledge regarding new trends in clinical practice and information systems.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of project management practices, methodologies and principles.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with technical, operational and vendor staff.
  • Works independently or as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates change management orientation in their work and possesses an attitude of continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrates strong research and evaluation skills.
