About The Position

The Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) is hiring Nursing Facility Client Care Surveyors for its Nursing Facility Survey Unit (NFSU), part of the Safety, Oversight and Quality licensing program. The unit conducts federally mandated survey and certification activities to assess whether long-term care nursing facilities participating in Medicare or Medicaid, and/or licensed in Oregon, comply with federal requirements and state rules. The role supports the health, safety, quality of life, and quality of care of nursing facility residents. Surveyors evaluate the quality and adequacy of resident care and services within required time frames. They work with survey teams, sometimes as team coordinators, completing some tasks independently and others through a consensus process. They document findings using specified CMS software and CMS Principles of Documentation guidelines; reports must be clear, concise, complete, and legally defensible. The position is hybrid, combining remote and on-site work. The first month or more includes required in-person training at the Tigard office. The work involves regular travel to facilities and offices across Oregon, sometimes overnight, and may include driving in adverse weather. Typical hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, but schedules may change and may include long days, nights, weekends, holidays, or emergent situations. The position is not eligible for overtime; straight time is awarded for use in addition to other paid time off. Work takes place in a variety of long-term care facilities and may involve small conference rooms, prolonged standing, laptop use, and lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds. Surveyors interact with people who may have experienced trauma and are mandatory reporters of abuse and neglect of children, older adults, and other adults with disabilities. State and rental cars, mileage, accommodations, and meal reimbursements are available when applicable.
