About The Position
The Nursing Assistant provides patient care under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. The role supports patients with activities of daily living and helps maintain a safe, clean environment. The position is in the Med/Surg/Ortho area at MRMC and is scheduled for 32 hours during the day shift. The Nursing Assistant supports direct patient care, equipment management, documentation, environmental safety, transportation and specimen handling, infection control, education and precepting, resource utilization, and age-specific care. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, current CPR certification (or CPR/BLS certification within 30 days of hire), and at least one of the listed nursing assistant qualifications or experience pathways.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current CPR certification; if not currently certified, CPR/BLS is required within 30 days of hire.
- Meet at least one of the following: one year of nursing assistant experience; completion of a nursing assistant training program; current nursing assistant certification (CNA); or participation in the MRMC nursing assistant training program.
Responsibilities
- Provide constant observation for patients at risk for injury.
- Obtain and report vital signs, pulse oximetry, and non-invasive blood pressure.
- Perform blood glucose testing and EKGs as indicated.
- Transport patients safely and report changes in patient condition or behavior.
- Retrieve and clean equipment between uses and follow assigned-unit equipment management protocols.
- Record intake, output, height, weight, and vital signs in the electronic medical record.
- Document blood glucose results, completion of personal care, and patient activity.
- Keep the call light within the patient's reach and the bed in the low position at all times.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Collect and transport specimens according to MRMC standards.
- Wash hands before and after patient care and follow infection-control guidelines for patients on precautions.
- Maintain current CPR certification and job-related competencies.
- Precept new nursing assistants according to the department orientation plan.
- Take responsibility for personal actions in patient care delivery.
- Apply knowledge of growth and development stages and provide age-appropriate communication and support.
