Nursing Assistant - Medical Unit (Day and Evening Shifts)
About The Position
The Nursing Assistant provides direct care to patients and serves their needs in a manner that supports safety and comfort. The role works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager, Assistant Head Nurse, and/or Department Director, possibly with guidance from an LPN, and contributes to Essentia Health’s mission and goals. The Nursing Assistant works within the scope of the job to meet Joint Commission and other applicable regulatory and accrediting requirements. Duties vary by patient care unit or department. This position is based at St Josephs Medical Center in the Brainerd and Baxter, Minnesota area. It is a 0.7 FTE role requiring 56 hours every two weeks, with rotating eight-hour day and evening shifts and every-other-weekend work. Holidays are required; there is no call obligation.
Requirements
- Meet one of the following qualifications: six months of patient care experience; completion of one semester of clinical rotations within an accredited nursing program; successful completion of an Essentia Health-provided Nursing Assistant training within one month of hire; verifiable completion of a recognized nurse aide training program; or current registration on the applicable state nursing assistant registry.
- BLS certification, or ability to become certified within one month of hire.
- Work 56 hours every two weeks on rotating eight-hour day and evening shifts.
- Work every other weekend and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Provide personal hygiene care and assist with patients’ nutritional needs.
- Provide comfort care and other assistance.
- Transfer patients appropriately and safely.
- Take vital signs and complete recordkeeping.
- Recognize and promptly report changes in patient condition to the RN.
- Maintain a safe, clean environment for patients to promote healing.
- Work within job scope to meet Joint Commission and applicable regulatory and accrediting requirements.
