About The Position

Become part of Essentia’s team in Brainerd and Baxter, Minnesota. The Nursing Assistant provides direct patient care and serves patients in a manner that supports their safety and comfort. The position works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager, Assistant Head Nurse, and/or Department Director, possibly with guidance from an LPN, to support Essentia Health’s mission and goals. The role operates within its scope of practice and applicable Joint Commission, federal, state, and local regulatory and accrediting requirements. Duties vary by patient care unit or department.

This position is 24 hours per week, with rotating 8-hour day and evening shifts and every-other-weekend work. Day shift is 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; evening shift is 3:00 p.m.–11:30 p.m. Holiday work is required; there is no call obligation.

Requirements

• Meet one of the following qualifications: six months of patient care experience; completion of one semester of clinical rotations within an accredited nursing program; successful completion of an Essentia Health-provided Nursing Assistant training within one month of hire; verifiable completion of a recognized nurse aide training program; or current registration on the applicable state nursing assistant registry.
• Be BLS certified or able to become certified within one month of hire.
• If qualified through the Essentia Health Foundation Course East Market, complete the Essentia Health Nursing Assistant Foundation course within 90 days of hire.
• Work 24 hours per week on rotating 8-hour day and evening shifts and every other weekend.
• Work holidays.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal hygiene care and assist with patients’ nutritional needs.
• Provide comfort care and other assistance.
• Transfer patients appropriately and safely.
• Take vital signs and complete recordkeeping.
• Recognize and promptly report changes in patient condition to the RN.
• Maintain a safe, clean environment for patients to promote healing.
• Work within job scope to meet applicable Joint Commission and regulatory and accrediting requirements.
