About The Position

The Nurse Tech works in the Butterworth Emergency Department, a fast-paced Level 1 Trauma Center with 100 patient care spaces and approximately 109,000 annual visits. The department cares for patients with minor illnesses and injuries as well as serious chronic and acute health concerns, using a team-based approach to care.

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider, the Nurse Tech contributes to quality patient care by performing basic skills according to department guidelines and communicating observations to the health care team. The role includes collecting and reporting information about patients’ physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs in coordination with the RN or Provider.

This is a part-time position scheduled for 24 hours per week, from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., every other weekend. Orientation includes four classroom days, Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., followed by six to eight weeks of full-time floor orientation at 36 hours per week. The first four weeks of floor orientation are on day shift, and at least two weekdays must be available during that period.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.

• >1 year of emergency, EMT, or patient care experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic patient-care skills according to department guidelines under the supervision of an RN or Provider.
• Communicate observations to members of the health care team.
• Collect and report information about patients’ and families’ physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs in coordination with and as directed by the RN or Provider.
• Take vital signs and check blood sugars.
• Provide bed baths, assist with ambulation, and perform wound care and catheterization.
• Act as a safety attendant for patients.
• Complete required documentation accurately and promptly.
